In A Matchbox

from Magritte by The Spanish Amanda

/

about

In the 1980's, 'Charlie' was a well-known perfume worn by the kinds of girls my mother didn't especially approve of. It was also the name of an animated cat in a series of UK public information films (of which my mother DID approve), and a slang term for cocaine, regarding which my mother (now deceased) is not known to have harboured any particular opinion. She took a fairly firm line on things like mullets and double denim, however, so I can't imagine she'd have been an advocate... a position warmly saluted, decades later, by the (not yet deceased) Spanish Amanda. Go, mum..!
