Steve McQueen

from Magritte by The Spanish Amanda

/

about

We endured months of painful gestation with this - we knew who the song was about, and how we felt about them, and the music appeared pretty much instantaneously... but oh, the words, the words. Then the line, "Not everybody can rock a fedora..." was delivered by the cosmos, and the rest pretty much wrote itself. A large stack of Steve McQueen DVDs helped get the Spanish Amanda through the latter half of a fairly grim summer - eerily, he never seemed to get any older. Peak cool - 1971, 'Le Mans'..? Discuss...

credits

from Magritte, released November 25, 2022
Mostly written by Huw Darling, but with 'Steve McQueen' samples from Irwin Yeaworth's 1958 classic, 'The Blob'. Googling 'The Blob' rather charmingly elicits the suggested "People Also Ask" question of 'Is The Blob based on a true story?'. Bit of a worry, that.
